There is so much that can be said about 2020. The fact that it's not over yet still kinda makes us live on the edge a little because we don't know if there's another spanner in works. It's been a heavy year in all aspects but quite eye opening too.
This post will highlight some of the lessons it has taught me. Lessons that we should carry for the rest of our lives really.
Tomorrow is not guaranteed
I used to hear the phrase "tomorrow never comes" but I really didn't get it until some few years ago and this year reminded me again. With this in mind, I hope we all stop pushing away the things we really want to do for another time. For a tomorrow that we may never see. The same applies to the relationships we have, to the people we love. Give your loved ones their flowers while they are still alive. Make amends now for the relationships you still cherish.
No effort is too little
If there's a year that has brought us face to face with our complacency and privilege it's this one
Though we haven't registered 100% success rates, we have seen the power that social media can have in achieving/ trying to achieve social justice. We have seen how it has helped in the apprehension of some criminals. Social media has helped in calling out systemic issues and even if no major changes were born, at least people were educated.
In the same vain, we have seen how people can be assisted financially through awareness created on social media. We have seen fund drives to aid people have a roof over their heads, get some food on the table and especially at the beginning of the year where a good number of people were gravely affected by the pandemic. You can actually do something to create change in your own capacity, by a simple retweet, a post on your status... nothing is too little.
Flexibility can still guarantee productivity
It's been a year of working from home, distant learning and zoom meetings. Professions that would otherwise have never embraced going online have during this year. I remember this one time back in University I asked about the possibility of online learning and I was told it was a hard no but this year guess who offer online based learning ?
Those are my few take home lessons this year.
